Abstract:

How we work is often based on what generation we were born into. What we expect of our employers, what kind of benefits we want from work, and what kind of work arrangements. The way we manage those in our team, is also influenced by our generation.

The energy industry, and the oil and gas companies in particular face a huge age gap, with the well documented “great crew change” and with a lot of the baby boomers retiring, more and more, millennials are finding themselves in management positions.

There is a lot published about what Millennials expect in the workplace and how to manage expectations, but what happens when millennials advance into management?

This presentation will document some of my personal stories, good and bad, some of the learning along the way and how to stay authentic on the way to becoming a young, female manager in the energy industry.
